49t <br />minutes of Adjourned -Meeting <br />Redwood City Council <br />August 9th, 1948 <br />Convened at 1C:1^- A.M. <br />FOLLOWING WERE PRESE14T ON ROLL CALL: Councilmen H. E. Holmquist, Robt. V. Spillers, h. V. Swift, Mayor <br />W. MI. Werder and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were City Attorney C. B. Currie, Auditor <br />J. J.Brophy, Administrative Assistant Richard D. Miller, Police Chief C. L. Collins. Councilmen <br />f <br />Britschgi, Granger and Morgan noted absent. <br />CITY CLERK, AT THE REQUEST OF CITY MIANAGER 30LISON, REQUESTED PERMISSION OF COUNCIL TO ADVERTISE FOR <br />BIDS FOR A POLICE DEPARTMENT MOTORCYCLE. On motion of Councilman Spillers, seconded by Council- <br />man Saift, authority was granted. Motion carried. <br />CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE EXPLAINED THAT RESOLUTION OF PERLIMINARY DETERMINATION SOUTH KENSINGTON SQUARE <br />IMPROVEMENTS was not ready for introduction at this time, however, inasmuch as the work can not <br />be done until early next year he could see no objection to resolution being held over to a later <br />date. <br />ON MOTION OF COUNCILMAN SWIFT, seconded by Councilman Spillers, meeting adjourned. <br />BOARD OF EQUALIZATION <br />City Council sitting as Board of Equalization convened at 10:13 A.M. <br />FOLLOWING 'DERE PRESENT ON ROLL CALL: Councilmen H. E. Holmquist, Robt. V. Spillers, A. V. Swift, <br />Mayor W. M. Werder, and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were City Attorney C. B. Currie, <br />Assessor -Auditor J. J. Brophy, Administrative Assistant Richard D. Miller, Police Chief C. L. <br />Collins. Councilmen Britschgi, Granger and Morgan noted absent. <br />C014MUNICATION RECEIVED FROM U. S. AND GERTRUDE JONES, 56 REDWOOD AVENUE, asking for consideration in <br />amount of assessment on their property. City Assessor Brophy explained that an $80 error in <br />extension had been discovered and he recommended that the original assessment be corrected to <br />eliminate the error, no further allowances to be made. On motion of Councilman Holmquist, seconded <br />by Councilman Spillers, it was so ordered. Motion carried. <br />COMMUNICATION RECEIVED FROM SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER. Protested an assessment of personal property <br />reported at $210 asking for a reduction to a total of $100. City Assessor recommended that <br />the x.210 figure be cut to $175 on basis of figures submitted by protestant. Recommendation <br />approved on motion of Councilman Holmquist, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />CITY ASSESSOR REPORTED REGARDING ASSESSMENT ON CHINCHILLA RANCH, 5th AVENUE, FRIENDLY ACRES. Owner <br />claims he is boarding chinchillas for other people and tha County Assessor is preparing sep- <br />arate bills. He recommended that the City do likewise. So ordered on motion of Councilman <br />Spillers, seccnded by Councilman Swift, and carried. <br />MR. RAY PEAL, OWNER OF LARGE ACREAGE, FOHPA.ERLY KNOWN AS TACOMA MILL PROPERTY EAST OF BAYSHORE HIGHWAY, <br />CONSISTING OF 99.69 ACRES. Mr. Peal stated that at the present he had no highway frontage due <br />to the fact that the 90' strip paralleling Bayshore was still owned by Tacoma Mill people. <br />After checking City Assessor verified this fact and recommended that the tract be reassessed <br />in conformance with the balance of the property in this area, subject to checking maps and other <br />data. Councilman Holmquist so moved, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br />=.MR. COLEMAN, 546 MAPLE STREET, OWNER OF PROPERTY AT THE CORNER OF MAPLE AND STAMBAUGH STREETS, stated <br />that he thought the assessment on his property was too high. Councilman Holmquist explained <br />the method of reassessing all properties last year after which Assessor Brophy recommended that <br />no change be made in the assessment as a recheck of the figures showed no errors: in the original <br />assessment. So ordered on motion of Councilman Holmquist, seconded by Councilman Swift, and carried. <br />THERE BEING NO FURTHER COMMUNICATIONS or protectants, Councilman Spillers moved adjournment, seconded <br />
