DODGE <br />Clerk of the City of Redwood City <br />Minutes of Regular Meeting <br />Redwood City Council <br />August 16th, 1948, 5:00 PM <br />ON ROLL CALL the following were present: Councilmen C.A.Rritschgi, Floyd D. Granger, H. E. Holmquist, Robert <br />V. Spillers, A.V. S -gift, Mayor W. M. 7.4erder and CityClerk R. S.Dodge. Also present were City Collector <br />P. E. Perrin, Police Chief C. L. Collins, Assistant Engineer H. L. Winter, City Manager E. A.Rolison, <br />Building Inspector L. M. Duncai;,Assessor-Auditor J. J. Brophy, Administrative Assistant Riche rd D. <br />Miller, City Attorney C. B. Currie, City Engineer Glenn M. Jain. Councilman Morgan noted absent. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meting of August 2nd, and the adjourned meeting.of August 9th <br />were aprroved as mailed on motion of Councilman Spillers, seconded by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. <br />PACIFIC SURPLUS SALES CO., 2063 BROADWAY. Letter signed by Lee Alderman requested an extension of time on <br />removal notice, owing to consideration shown to other businesses on the same street. This would give <br />them time to locate another store and they were depending on the next few month's business for the <br />major part of their business for the entire year. Councilman Grangermoved that requEt be denied, <br />seconded by Councilman Swift and after discussion included a fifteen day extension of time. Under <br />further discussion there was some question when the tenants of adjoining property would be out. On <br />roll call the vote was split, Councilmen Britschgi, Spillers and Mayor `4erder voting No. Councilman <br />Morgan noted absent. Mayor Werder thought that inasmuch as these buildings had been standing for <br />years that if all were abated by the first of the year, this merchant could enjoy the Christmas <br />business. After discussion on the Wooll property, Council returned to the subject of the Surplus <br />Store. Councilman Granger moved that a sixty day extension be granted from date of expiration of <br />notice, seconded by Councilman Holmquist. On roll call motion was lost, Councilman Granger and Holm- <br />quist voting Yes. Councilman Morgan noted absent. Councilman Spillers moved tht- the people in <br />question be granted an extension of time until January 1st, notice to be given 30 days prior to <br />expiration of time, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. On roll call motion carried with four votesq Ccuncil- <br />man Granger voting No. Councilman Swift did not vote. Councilman Morgan noted absent <br />WOOLL PROPERTY, 4:037,2.47 and x:049 BROADWAY. City Attorney advised no agreement had been made between <br />the City and Mrs. Wooll in re to time to vacate, as conditions had not been met by Council; that <br />of permitting them to put in a parking lot if buildings were abated. Under discussion it was decided <br />that this would be up to the owner. Councilman Granger moved that City ent?r into agreement as <br />worked out by the C'ty Attorney including their lot for a public parking lot. Motion was seeorffid <br />by Councilman Britschgi, and carried. <br />REQUEST FOR BILLING MACHINE FOR ?WATER DEPARTMENT, SAME TO BE EQUIPPED WITH TAX BILLING ATTACHMENT. This <br />request made by Auditor Brophy and recommended by City Manager, was presented at the time both from <br />an economic and an Efficient viewpoint due to increase of water consumers and the fact tht t%ecollection <br />of se,�ier rentals would soon be added, purchase of the machine could be financed by the Yater Department. <br />Councilman Granger moved that request be denied as budget had not teen passed upon, seconded by Council- <br />man Spillers. City Manager stated this was not out of the budget reserve. Councilman Britschgi pro- <br />posed delay on this and further study by the Council. Mr. Brophy stated they were having trouble with <br />the machine now and were advised by the service man that it probably could not be repaired again. <br />Councilman Spillers then withdrew his second. inasmuch as the machine would not be obtainable for <br />several weeks, Councilman Granger moved that this be placed on the agenda for the second meeting in <br />September, and in the meantime the Council was to look over machines in the Auditor's office, seconded ` <br />by Councilman Holmquist, and carried. <br />
