authorized to sign and deliver to each of them a certificate of election and to 4(19 - <br />administer <br />(1 -administer to each of them the oath of office prescribed in the constitution of <br />the State of California. <br />b. HILTON <br />Mayor of the City of Redwood City <br />After canvass of votes Mayor Hilton stated there was nothing more except the swan <br />song, thanked the Council members for their cooperation during his term of office, <br />conceded it a pleasure to serve the people of Redwood City and thought it would be <br />nice to have an older councilman say a few words to the "dean of the council", <br />speaker <br />George W. McNulty. It was not possible for the/to attend the meeting so Mayor <br />Hilton informed those present that Mr. McNulty had served the City of Redwood City <br />faithfully as Councilman for 32 years and had he not been ill at the time of the <br />recent election that things would have been different, and thanked him for his <br />service on behalf of the City of Redwood City. Councilman McNulty thanked those <br />who had supported him in the election and wished the new and old Councilmen of the <br />City's welfare the best of everything and declared from now on he "will be just <br />another disgrunteled taxpayer". Councilman McNulty wished to move adjournment of <br />his last meeting sine die and so moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Motion <br />carried, 4A! <br />MINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />April 20th, 1949 <br />ROBERT (BOB) SPILLERS, ALBERT H. MORGAN, JR., HARVEY EDWIN HOLMQUIST AND FLOYD D. GRANGER, <br />took the oath of office administered by City Clerk Ralph S. Dodge. <br />THE FOLLOWING ROLL CALL WAS TAKEN: Councilmen: Carl A. Britschgi, Floyd D. Granger, <br />H. E. Holmquist, Albert H. Morgan, Jr., Robert Spillers, Arthur V. Swift and <br />Wm. M. Werder. City Clerk called the meeting to order and announced that nominations <br />were in order for temporary or permanent chairman. Councilman Holmquist wished to <br />withdraw his name after considering personal and varied interest stating that any <br />position on the Council is an honored office, that personal ambition should be set <br />aside and that each member should act in the best interest of the group for harmony. <br />He, therefore, wished to cast his vote for Wm W. Werder and asked those who formerly <br />
