City Manager stated we would not spend the $500 unless material was furnished
by these companies. Motion carried. City Manager to report back next regular
meeting.
TRAFFIC AND SAFETY COMMISSION APPROVE ONE HOUR PARKING LIMIT ON WEST SIDE OF EL CAMINO
REAL FROM JAMES AVENUE TO HARRISON AVENUE. Councilman Morgan thought further study
should be given to this in an attempt to prevent spot zoning and the matter should
be referred to City Manager and Chief of Police to study. There were decided points
of view on this issue, some thinking business men might be using street for parking
cars after repair and others thought commuters were using street for all day park -
r
Ing. Councilman Morgan moved that recommendation be tabled for further study as
b-4 to who is violating parking privilege, seconded by Councilman Spillers. On roll
call motion was defeated with Council Morgan and Spillers voting Yes. Councilman
Swift was noted absent. Councilman Britschgi then offered -motion approving recom-
mendation of Traffic & Safety Commission, seconded by Councilman Granger. Council-
man Morgan stated that while it is true that Traffic & Safety Commission have given
thought to the situation it is within the Council's province to analyze what has
been recommended and that while he served on the Planning Commission things were
turned down by the Council and any reconsiderations recommended by the Council were
welcomed. Another roll call was taken, motion carried with Councilmen Morgan and
Spillers voting No. Councilman Swift was noted absent.
APPLICATION TO INSTALL SEPTIC TANK BLOCK 1, Lots 2 and 3, Jefferson Addition (Topaz near
.-. Harding) by Alfred W. Laurie. Councilman Britschgi stated that before acting on
%* this request he would like to know what had happened to the petitions setting up
an assessment district to take care of installation of sewers in this area. City
Engineer Jain advised that petitions had been prepared some time ago, but up to
this time nothing had been heard from the petitioners. Mayor Werder suggested that
matter be put over to the next regular meeting and that a letter be written to Mr.
Laurie so stating.
SA.'V MATEO TIMES REQUEST FOR ADVERTISING BY CITY OF REDWOOD CITY IN THEIR FIESTA AND GOLD
CENTENNIAL SOUVENIR EDITION was referred by the Chamber of Commerce and recommended
that a half page ad be considered. Councilman Morgan asked how much this would
amount to and Councilman Britschgi thought advertising in our local paper was enough.
Mayor Werder inquired if there was a budget for this year. City Manager Rolison
stated this was submitted for Council's consideration at this time but next year
the amount allowed for advertising expenditure would be specifically allocated
according to Council's intention. Councilman Granger moved that letter be written
to Chamber of Commerce explaing our position in the matter and why advertising in
San Mateo Times could not be considered. Motion received a second by Councilman
Morgan, and carried.
TRANSFER OF YACHT HARBOR BACK TO THE PORT COMMISSION; no funds to be appropriated in the
1948-49 budget was recommended by the Park and Recreation Commission in view of the
fact they will be forced to move in near future and facilities in deplorable con-
dition. They also recommended that a sinking fund of $2500 per year be set aside
for future harbor developments and that a committee be appointed to study the
feasibility of a joint Yacht Harbor operation with the County of San Mateo and City
