be referred to City Manager to report back at next meeting, seconded by Councilman
Spillers; Mayor concurred in this. Under discussion it was revealed that 0. D.
Johnson of National Motor Bearing Company had contacted City Manager and asked for
red rock; request was denied on grounds that city could not maintain parking lot
for them. Later Mr. Johnson called,an employee of the Engineering Department and
red rock was brought down in error due to misinformation being conveyed. Motion
carried.
LOUIS WEISS APPEARED REGARDING WATER,MAINS, REDWOOD TERRACE No. 3, -part of the Carson
Monkton Tract, and objected to water mains being installed at city expense. Re-
ferred to Resolution No. 288, passed on March 18, 1946, agreeing to install three
water mains and referred to Ordinance No. 499 of September, 1943, which required
subdividers in Subdivision No. 2 to install own water mains. Thought foregoing
resolution should be taken off books, that Council should appoint a commission to
do some searching before taking action on some of these matters, that a number of
things put on agenda never came up again. By way of closing stated Council had
meetings that public was not advised of. City Attorney Currie pointed out this
could happen as only six hours notice is needed for special meeting.
CI`T'Y MANAGER REPORT .ON FETING WITH L. , COHN, LAND DEVELOPMENT C0:,IPANY. They were ' in-
formed city was not in position at this time to put in mains as money was not
availbable and did not feel that the city should extend water mains into new sub-
divisions, though there may be tertian legal obligations that might have been made
previously over which we have no control, City Attorney will report if there is any
new arrangement. He further stated that city was expanding and endeavoring to put
in other water mains, that we would be using public's money without profit and
providing operation for subdividers who operate for profit. City Attorney stated
the subdividers were advised that city would put no more pipe in the area, and that
it would be better to work out plan of defense rather than reveal all points in
favor of city and furnish information for the other side which would inadvertently
work to our disadvantage. Mayor Werder suggested if satisfactory to the Council
that this not be lost in the shuffle, if no objection, a report would brought back
to the Council by the City Attorney.
REPORT ON MEETING WITH COL. SKEGGS BY THE CITY MANAGER REGARDING TRAFFIC SIGNALS. After
July lst, within a year signals will be placed at Main Street and Bayshore, Chestnut
and Bayshore and Five Points would be improved. Preparation of plans for synchronizing
and. modernizing of signals on Broadway will be made. Discussed signals and flood-
lights at Broadway and El Camino Real and islands at Broadway and El Camino Real
west on Broadway on left turn. It was decided that set back lines should be studied
by the Planning Commission on Whipple and was moved by Councilman Granger, seconded
by Councilman Morgan that no building permits be issued in the meantime. Motion
carried.
IMPROVEMEE T OF JOHNSTON STREET AND ALLEYS. City Engineer Jain asked that this be put on
agenda. It was so moved by Councilman Granger, seconded by Councilman Holmquist,
and carried.
SUBORDINATION OF INTEREST IN McGARVERY PARK_. City Attorney suggested this be dropped
from agenda until opinion is received from the title company. Mayor Werder declared
if no objection, it would be dropped from the agenda.
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS.
