Council had previously felt this could not
be considered but decided to allocate funds for such expenditure in next year's
budget. Under discussion many points were mentioned, Councilman Spillers thought
"11 advertising should be confined to Redwood City and that money was more necessary for
6A+ a soft ball field than advertising at this time; Councilman Holmquist countered that
Redwood City was the county seat, spirit of harmony and good feeling between cities
was also important, although he had previously voted against taking a full-page ad.
One-half page ad was discussed, a full page costing $175 and half page $90, to be
issued on August 9th. Councilman Britschgi moved that a sum of not more than $100
be set aside to cover this advertising expense and that the City take one-half page
as recommended by Chamber of Commerce, seconded by Councilman Swift; Councilman
Granger thought the procedure was wrong though he was in favor of recommendation.
Councilman Britschgi amended motion to read that the Council was in favor of funds
to go into advertising fund for this purpose. Motion carried, Councilman Spillers
voting No, Councilman Morgan passed vote as he questioned legality of Council's
action.
FRANCIS BRITSCHGI, CHAIRMAN OF PENINSULA CELEBRATION ASSOCIATION, APPEARED AGAIN TO RE-
QUEST THE NEW COUNCIL TO DONATE THE USUAL $1500 for the fireworks and benefit for
July 4th, Mr. Britschgi appeared four weeks -ago, and at that time, the Council did
not wish to take any action to bind the new council. Councilman Swift moved that
the usual contribution for the 4th of July of #1500 be set aside, seconded by Coun-
cilman Spillers. Councilman Spillers thought money should be spent in Redwood City.
Councilman Morgan stated he was fully in favor but wanted to know if money was coming
out of next budget. Mayor Werder explained that.in the past money was allocated for
the following budget. The money is to be paid after the 4th. Motion carried.
MR. & MRS.
