7.1.A. - Page 7 <br />Jim Kirkland, 36 year resident and businessman, supports the project. He opined that <br />the benefits to this project are immeasurable considering specifically the housing, taxes <br />to the school, and other public benefits. He urged Council to not delay. Furthermore, <br />he handed the Council 40 letters that show support for the hand road boat launch and <br />opined that it showed great interest in public recreation. <br />Ted Hannig, born and raised in Redwood City, opined that that the project should move <br />forward. He thanked Council for the vision and urged them to take leadership by <br />supporting this development. Mr. Hannig also mentioned that he has worked with the <br />Uccelli family; opined that they have done a lot in the community, which the public may <br />not be aware of and which the media has misportrayed; and, stated that it was the State <br />Lands Commission that took a long time to work with the Uccelli family. <br />Keith Bautista, mentioned that quality depends on the quality of its members. He <br />opined that Redwood City is a fantastic place to live at, and it is blessed to have Pete <br />and Paula (Uccelli). Mr. Bautista mentioned the Sequoia Awards and San Mateo <br />County Historical Association as a couple of the many projects that showed Pete and <br />Paula's involvement with the community. Mr. Bautista recommended that the Council <br />support this project. <br />Patrick Doyle, business owner and acquaintance of the Uccelli's for 21 years, implored <br />Council to not delay this project any further. He opined that it was ridiculous that this <br />project was delayed and so the children are not benefitting too from it <br />Leslie Webster, President of Save Pete's Harbor and member of the appellant group, <br />concurred with City staff that this project should be remanded to the Planning <br />Commission for modifications, public input, and environmental review. They object to <br />the project, and Ms. Webster opined that the EIR is inadequate. <br />Chris Young, with DDW Construction that has been working on the One Marina project <br />and with Pauls Corporation, stated that they are a union contractor. He stated that this <br />project will provide work for union contractors and local funds if the project moves <br />forward. Furthermore, he said that they would purchase from a local supplier for <br />construction. <br />David Smith, resident of Redwood City, opined that this was currently a losing situation <br />for everyone, because development was delayed. Therefore, nothing is happening <br />such as employment, improvements to the bay front, and reduction of public access. <br />He reasoned what would happen if Council was to approve this now, such as residents <br />can move in and funds would be passed to the children. In conclusion, he advocated <br />that Council should move this project forward. <br />Dani Gasparini, former Mayor of Redwood City, spoke about people losing the ability to <br />be civil and instead were being bullies at Council meetings. She advocates for civil <br />community conversations. Moreover, she said that she was sad about what was written <br />about the Council in blogs and how inappropriate such comments were.
