■ ■ 1 1'
City Manager Everett stated that if the pazk is phased, the dirt azea will not
be usable in winter; a wood chip azea would be usable.
Mr. Chang circulated blueprints showing the staging azea, small dog area, and
the lazge dog azea. A suggestion was made to hydroseed the small dog azea
and put wood chips in the azea for large dogs.
Council Member Bain expressed concern over the effect wood chips might
have on the health of dogs and said he was not comfortable with any of the
alternatives. He also questioned how much could be changed without
rebidding the project .
Mr. Chang stated that, in every varia6on in the report, the lower bidder stays
the same, as do the second and third bidders.
Turf would be maintained by the Shore Dogs, with water paid for by the City;
if wood chips are used, the City would freshen up the azeas periodically. If
wood chips are put down, top soil would not be put down. There was concern
that if hydroseed is used geese using the azea as a feeding ground would be a
problem. Another concern was the decision about this dog pazk impacting dog
pazk#2. If a decision is made, it could be implemented in two to three weeks
and the project would take 45-60 days. Council Member Ira suggested all
funding come from the GID.
M/S: Bain, Hartnett,to approve Option No. 2, awazding the contract total bid
amount of$62,730.16 and increasing the project budget by $26,000 to cover
the construction administration and additional construction contract costs.
Council Member Hartnett supported the motion and felt it did not set a
precedent for dog park #2. Funds for this dog pazk primarily come from GID
1-64. This pazk is good for the community. The commitment for maintenance
is a substantial commitment. If the turf is not maintained, it will revert to
wood chips.
Council Member Claire agreed this was the best alternative. It is time for
Redwood City to do the best it can do for its citizens.
Council Member Ruskin supported the mo6on and emphasized it was
important that this be done before winter.
Council Member Ira recommended that all funds used be from the GID.
City Attorney Schricker informed Council that action will be taken by
resolution.
