It is the City's
understanding that SMM has met with nearby businesses and has scheduled a
community forum for January 29.
Regulatory Coordination
In addition to the City of Redwood City, there are several other agencies that have
jurisdiction related to determining the impacts, possible violations and potential
remedies associated with the SMM fires. As noted above, these agencies include the
EPA, DTSC, BAAQMD and County of San Mateo. The Redwood City Fire Department
has been coordinating with these agencies at an operational level during the course of
the fire response and investigation. In order to explore the possibility of further
coordination, the City Manager has reached out to these agencies to convene an
executive level meeting to facilitate a shared understanding of the various jurisdictions'
perspectives, the regulatory options available to each, the implications for future
operations, and the potential for coordinated action.
This meeting has been scheduled for January 29, 2014. The City Manager will update
the Council as any next steps are identified.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with this report.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This staff report does not relate to a project under the California Environmental Quality
Act (CEQA), as defined by CEQA Guidelines, section 15378, because it has no
potential for resulting in either a direct or foreseeable physical change in the
environment.
ROBERT B.
