7.1.A. - Page 45
a low number of construction-related vehicle trips; these are not considered significant, and no
mitigation is required.
Bus Transit Service — The project area is served by bus and Caltrain rail transit service. Some bus
routes run along proposed pipeline construction routes. Bus stops may occasionally be unavailable
during construction activity, and coordination with the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans)
would be required to locate temporary stops, and to provide appropriate signing and no parking
signs as appropriate. No closures at this time appear to be required that would result in bus detours.
Should such detours be required, coordination with SamTrans will be required.
Rail Transit — The pipeline route currently includes one crossing of the Caltrain route in the
downtown area of Redwood City. Caltrain has frequent passenger rail activity. This crossing will be
constructed using the bore-and-jack method, to avoid surface disruption of rail service.
Bicycle and Pedestrian Circulation — Many bicycle routes/lanes and pedestrian sidewalks run along
proposed pipeline construction routes. These facilities may need to be temporarily closed and
rerouted during construction. If this were to occur, the routes would be posted one week in advance
noticing the temporary removal of the bike lane/route and/or closure of the sidewalk, notice the
closure with on-street signs, and clearly signing a detour route. Where the sidewalks are on a walk-
to-school route, signing will be provided to guide students along a detour route. The TMP will
address bicycle and pedestrian circulation plans.
16. ULTILITIES AND SERVICE SYSTEMS.
