live in and said she is proud of the Redwood City community and surrounding cities for <br /> their help and donations <br /> Mayor Aguirre and a Council Member thanked Ms. Borgens, the community and staff for <br /> their work. <br /> Claudia Calone said she is a Queen of the Festival finalist from the North Fair Oaks <br /> Festival, a high school graduate and intern, and she will be attending Berkeley in the <br /> fall. She asked for support for their festival and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Youth <br /> Programs by purchasing raffle tickets online and invited everyone to the festival. <br /> Janice Bonello, the current reigning Queen of the Festival, thanked everyone for their <br /> support. She is currently attending CSU (California State University) Monterey Bay and <br /> she is involved in the LGBT community womens' empowerment. She said she is <br /> representing the North Fair Oaks Festival that is on August 25t" and noted that all funds <br /> help the Sheriff of San Mateo County youth programs. <br /> Gita Dev, representing the Sierra Club, said that one of their members was manager of <br /> the apartment building that caught fire and she thanked everyone for their help. She <br /> said the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club is a strong supporter of the Redwood <br /> City Downtown program and spoke in favor of the City advocating for Measure A and for <br /> funding for SamTrans stations and Caltrain ridership to provide transportation for the <br /> community. <br /> Joseph Rosas, representing Save Pete's Harbor, invited everyone to a special event on <br /> August 17th at the local Applebees from 8 to 10 a.m. for a pancake breakfast benefit for <br /> Save Pete's Harbor. He said they are concerned about the outer marina for public use, <br /> are not against development at the harbor with respect to CEQA mitigations, and they <br /> believe development at Pete's Harbor is a complex matter on land and on water and <br /> encourage Council to include Pete's Harbor in the Inner Harbor Plan. <br /> Shaunn Cartwright, representing Save Pete's Harbor, spoke about the Fourth of July <br /> fireworks. She also opined that there was poor planning in allowing people to leave the <br /> Port, because they were not allowed into Pete's Harbor as in previous years to view the <br /> fireworks. She said there are a lot of people displaced from the apartment fire and <br /> Pete's Harbor and with zero budget for low income housing; she is not sure what they <br /> can do. She invited everyone to picket on July 30th from 3 to 5 p.m. at nonunion <br /> construction site on Veterans Boulevard. <br /> James Lee, a resident, spoke about a joint meeting of the Association of Bay Area <br /> Government (ABAG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and how <br /> the numbers approved by ABAG do not meet the need for low income housing. He said <br /> one city was recently sued for not doing enough for affordable housing and opined that <br /> he does not want to see this happen to this City.
