bear fruit in the years ahead. We see the Red Morton Center, the beginning of a
three-way partnership now... between the Council, the Chamber of Commerce
and the Schools to build new library media centers in all Redwood City
schools." Councilman Ruskin described Georgi's grace under pressure, and
said, "It is not only an attractive quality, it has had a profound impact on the
City. Even when there's been a divisive vote, her graciousness has helped us
always see the common ground, and helped us to move forward as a team. I
also want to thank Georgi very much for sharing her knowledge and experience
with me. You have contributed immeasurably to my growth, and I want to
thank you. I will miss you, and I want to thank you for your twelve years of
public service."
Couneilwoman Buehan said, "I will say in public, what I said to you privately
a few weeks ago, the true measure of all this is if Redwood City has been made
just a little bit better because you were here. And the answer is yes. You did
good work. You ought to be very proud of the work you did, and I thank you
for all that you did for me."
Councilman Claire said he met Councilwoman La Berge while he was
teaching at Canada and she was the Public Relations Officer in 1976. He said
"unfortunately Canada College lost her to CSM and CSM got a lot of students
that we never got.... From the day I met her, she was a young, and continues to
be young, vivacious, outgoing, spark plug, that has been fantastic for our
Community College District, but even more so for our City. She was my
publicity chairman in 1982 when I ran for election, and I credit her for my
election in many ways, and Jack Greenalch... I was elated when she decided to
run in 1986 for the City Council... She has been a solid, solid influence on this
community for many years. She raised her children in this community. After
serving with her for eleven years and two months... I can say, she was always a
lady. She was always a solid person who always brought dignity to the Council,
and dignity to every decision, no matter how much we might have argued, no
matter how much we disagreed, and we have disagreed. She was always a lady
about everything she did." Councilman Claire said he would never forgive
Councilwoman La Berge for looking younger than he. He added that the
political process can sometimes be very trying, but Councilwoman La Berge
had always been a lady, with great dignity, and made her decisions and moved
on. "For that I thank her and thank her for all the years that I have served with
her, she's been a wonderful, wonderful colleague, and I will miss her sorely,
until the next time she runs."
Couneilman Leipzig said, "Georgi you know you are not going to get away.
You are still going to work on the Museum with me. We are going to bring that
County Museum to downtown Redwood City. We have had differences
between us on some issues and policies, but we have always been civil, you
have always been civil and graceful, and I appreciate that.
