ITom the fire station, there would be additional costs, perhaps up to $500,000. Committee
Member La Berge said the next report ITom the Facilities Committee will be very detailed.
Councilman Leipzig said "We want these projects to move forward, but... at some point
we need to have a hard look at the whole process, the bigger picture, not just these projects,
but all the projects that the City has undertaken and will undertake in the future; because
this is a consistent theme, and that is probably a bigger concern of mine, rather than where
are we going to come up with a million to finish these much needed projects."
Mayor Hartnett said "We make policy decisions and there are price tags to them. When
we attempt to move projects along faster than we might otherwise, and without as much
deliberation because we are making commitments and promises to the community, there are
price tags associated with that. I think this Council has demonstrated that... we are going
to live up to our commitments to the community in that regard. The Teen Center is an issue
we have discussed previously and I know that the Facilities Committee has discussed the
fact that they did not wish the Teen Center to be eliminated ITom the Community Center,
and I certainly don't want that. I think we need to pay the price to keep it in. We certainly
made other policy decisions with respect to bifurcation of the fire station and maintenance
facility and we simply need to work with those decisions," which the Council will do after
the full report and recommendations are brought to the Council ITom the Facilities
Committee.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. PUBLIC HEARINGS
A. Public Hearing on the Appeal of the Zoning Administrator's decision to deny a variance
for a triplex development on a 50-foot wide lot, where 75 feet is required - Appellant
Russell Perrone (603)
Councilman Leipzig announced that he had a family member who lives very close to the
proposed project site, and that he would remove himself from the discussion and decision
in order to avoid an appearance of a conflict of interest. Councilman Leipzig left the dais
at this time.
MEMO 1/28/97
The City Clerk asked all members of the audience and staff who intended to speak to this
issue to stand, raise their right hands and swear to tell the truth. Everyone swore to tell
the truth.
MEMO 1/28197
LOCATION: 704 Vera Avenue; being the northeasterly Yz of Lot 17, Block
3, Jefferson Acres, RSM 11/1,2; APN 053-022-210; "R-2" (Residential
Duplex) Zoning District
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING JANUARY 27, 1997
MINUTES MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 PAGE 5
Page No. 108
