I I I I II

3. Priority should be given to anti-gang efforts. (The department should link this effort with
the Youth Advisorv Board.
-- Councilman Ruskin expressed concern that Council Members were being limited to
choosing only five top priorities, of unequal weight. He said that highlighting only five
might give a false message about those items not included. In response to Councilman
Ruskin's questions regarding the Council priority projects in progress which would not be
stopped at this point, City Manager Everett identified: Mezes Plaza, San Mateo County
Historical Museum, the report on Police Department staffmg issues, and City Council
implementation of appropriate, joint Chamber/City economic strategies. City Manager
Everett said expressing support for on-going priorities tells staff it is going in the right
direction and to continue its efforts, for example the PAL and DARE programs.
Ranking priorities within the four major priorities:
Specialist Barbour distributed five "dots' to each Council Member and asked each of them
to vote for his or her top five priorities by placing a dot next to that item. Results of the
votes were as follows::
a. Economic Development;
No.4 received five votes.
No.8 received three votes.
No.7 received two votes
-- No.1 received one vote
No.2 received one vote.
b.
