A draft of the updated element will be released in late spring for <br /> expected adoption by the fall of 2014. <br /> Building Community Element <br /> Adoption: October 11, 2010 <br /> Amendments: <br /> • Resolution 1506: Adoption of the New General Plan (October 11, 2010) <br /> Summary: The Building Community Element recognizes Redwood City's history of <br /> focus on improving the quality of life for all. The Building Community Element contains <br /> the following Chapters: Public Places; Urban and Natural Trail Connections; Recreation <br /> and Human Services; Health; Lifelong Learning, Libraries, and Schools; and Childcare. <br /> Highlights of Accomplishments: <br /> • Program BC-1: Redwood City Parks and Facilities Needs Assessment: <br /> o Mezes Park: Renovations have been completed including the <br /> replacement of restrooms, improved ADA accessibility, new lighting, <br /> replacement of the tot lot playground with newer code compliant <br /> structures, new picnic areas, new irrigation, a new lawn area, and new <br /> planting. <br /> o Jardin de Nino's Park: The improvement plans are being finalized and the <br /> bid award is targeted for spring 2014. The project involves improvements <br /> to the restroom facilities, retrofitting the play area, adding pedestrian <br /> lighting, incorporating a new plaza and fountain, and adding a new gate to <br /> keep children from running into the street. <br /> o Main Street Dog Agility Park: The concept plans are being finalized and <br /> the City is working with the Joint Powers Authority on accessibility <br /> improvements. <br /> o Linden Park: Neighborhood meetings have been initiated regarding <br /> proposed renovations for the park. The SFPUC has approved the concept <br /> design, and the next step is for the City to submit more detailed drawings <br /> to the SFPUC for review. <br /> • The City is working with Advocates For Accessible Recreation (AFAR) at the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center to increase recreation programming for people <br /> with disabilities (Program BC-13: Accessible Recreation Activities Program). <br /> • The City and YMCA have entered into a partnership agreement to develop a new <br /> Center/Aquatic/Senior complex at Red Morton Park (Program BC-18: Secular <br /> and Faith-Based Organizations Partnerships). <br /> • The City Council approved the Public Art Master Plan (Program BC-42). <br /> • Reserve funding is expected to equal 22.2% of forecast revenues by June 30, <br /> 2014 (Program BC-55: Reserve Funding). <br /> 91 <br />
