CITY ATTORNEYS REPORT REGARDING CONFEENCE WITH CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO OFF'ICIALS regard- F)1
ing Hetch Hetchy right-of -way. City Attorney Currie stated that he had written to the
San Francisco offieials a week ago and had discussed the matter with a Mr. 0'Conner. He
had not received a reply as yet and the matter was carried over to the agenda of May lOth
- meeting.
„w., COUNCILMAN ROYERS REPORT REGARDING F UNDS FOR INIPROVEMENT OF MADDUX DRIVE. Councilman Royer
had checked and advised that there had been unallocated funds in the 1953-54 Budget
amounting to 3,981.00, 2,091.20 had been expended in acquiring two-thirds of an acre
plot, leaving a balance of approximately 1,892.00. In order that the area be turfed
and sprinkling system be inatalled, he suggested t hat the 1,200 be set aside. Council-

man Royer so moved, s econded b y Councilman Stout. Commissioner Hanley objected to the

program as sugested, it being his opinion that there had been enough money placed in
the budget to complete the program in Maddux Park. After discussion regarding budget
matters and the amounts of money made available, it was decided that the above amount
would be authorized for the present program with the possibility that additional funds
would be provided in the 1954'S5 Budget. Motion carried on roll a11, Councilman Jones
noted absent.
MAYOR HERKNER REQUESTED that hereafter t he chairman of each commission receive a copy of the
budget, at least the portion effecting their department.
COUNCILMAN BRITSCHGItS REPORT REGARDING HIRING HEAVY EQUIPNlENT TO ASSIST IN TIE iEED ABATEMENT
PROGRAM. Couneilman Britschgi had discussed this matter with the City Manager and Fire
Chief snd due to unseasonal growth, reeds were getting ahead of City equipment and it
'"'" was thou ht advisable to secure heav e ui ment to hel out at
g y q p p pesent. In order to
, expedite the program, advertisement had been placed in the Tribune and the date of May
17th selected for the opening of bids. Councilman Britschgi then moved that the action
of the committee be ratified, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried.
CQUNCILMAN BRITSCHGI DISCUSSED THE MATTER OF EQUIPMENT IAT THE PARK DEPARTMENT, calling atten-
tion to the fact that lawns were being mowed by hand labor. In his opinion this could
be done by power equipment, it being his contention that the saving in labor would re-
sult in paying the cost of the equipent. In answer to the proposal that the present
tractor be used to pull the mower equipment, it developed that it would be necessary to
change tires each time equipment was used in mowing lawns. There is approximately
enough money lef't in the Park Department eapital budget to cover the cost of this equip-
ment. Mayor Herkner suggested that this matter be placed on the agenda for May lOth
,,,. for further investiation, and Councilman Stout then moved that the matter be referred

to the Park and Recreation Commission for their recommendation, seconded by Councilman
 Britschgi and earried.
COUNCILMAN BRITSCHGI II9ISCUSSED THE RECENT MEETING W'ITH MR. SHERIDAN S. LEE regarding h3.s re-
quest for a water connection in the Emerald Lake area. Councilman Britschgi was of the
^
' opinion that a complete sutdy should be made, the approximate cost to be arrived at and

Irr
the people in the area be invited to participate in the program. It was determined that
denial of connection requested by Mr. Lee was proper inasmuch as there was insufficient
water in his area. Councilman Britschgi then mo ved that the City Manager take the
necessary steps to the end that a program be worked out and approximate cost be arrived
at after whieh . the Council could study the matter and attempt to work something out.
Motion was secoded by Councilman Granger and carried.
