The Real Estate Committee had looked into this matter and <br /> taking everything into consideration, recommended denial of the application of Mr. <br /> J. Ara$ni to resubdivide. Councilman Stout moved the accep�ance of the recommendation, •� <br /> seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. � <br /> ACTING �ZAYOR ROYER REPORTED that the Real Estate Committee had looked into the proposed <br /> extension of Hess Road and Poplar Avenue. The property in question has been carried <br /> at an asaessed valuation of �400.00 and the Committee had agreed on a price of �600.00. <br /> Mr. Carl Wood addressed the Council and claimed that the assessed valuation was below <br /> actual value. In his opinion the property would hold a thirteen unit apartment house. <br /> The Corrffn.ittee� s contention, however, was that the property would require considerable <br /> fi11 before same could be used for building purposes and the suggestion was made t hat <br /> Mr. WTood submit an offer in a letter. Assessor Brophy stated that there might be some <br /> severance damages inasmuch as the small triangular piece would result which would be of <br /> little value. The matter was held over for further study and discussion. <br /> REPORT ON MEETING V�iITH OWNER, CONTRACTOR AND PROTESTAi�T, BUILDIIdG SITE Oid END OF INNER CIRCLE. <br /> � <br /> Councilman Spillers reported that the Committee had contacted �the contractor and had <br /> �„�.r <br /> agreed to a variance changing the set back and t he side lines which, in their opinion, <br /> would have resulted in a satisfactory conclusion. The contractor eontacted the Building <br /> Inspector and had been advised that the variance could be granted only by the Planning <br /> Commission which resulted in the contractor going back to the original five foot side <br /> line set back. �Ir. Edward Gillmore again appeared stating his objections to the <br /> present set up. His suggestion was that the driveway be built with a curve and sugges- <br /> ted that the contractor be requested to cooperate in cutting the approach to the street <br /> to nine feet in width. In anawer to Councilman Grangerts question, City Engineer Jain <br /> stated that in his opinion the driveway ordinance did not cover the situation inasmuch <br /> as the entrance was into the street and there was no curb or sidewal.k at the point of <br /> entrance. Af'ter further discussion, City Attorney Currie was directed to check into the <br /> � <br /> legality of restriction in the street opening and to contact the contractor in an effort <br /> to have the driveway rearranged to set back changes. "" <br /> IV�ATTER OF PROPOSED EXTENSION OF HESS ROAD was again discussed and it was suggested that <br /> services of an appraiser be secured to establish a valuation of Mr. Wood� s property. <br /> Mr. Wood, however, stated that rather than going to the expense of hiring an appraiser, � <br /> the Real Estate Committee meet wlth him in an attempt to reach an understanding. Blakely of the County En�ineerts office <br /> who haci been handling the affairs of the I��enlo Lighting District was on vacation and <br /> would not return for tvro weeks. The Clerk was direct to contact the Pacific Gas & <br /> Electric Company for further information. <br />
