The motion wa� <br /> seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br /> REPORT ON INDUSTRIAL WAY BY COUNCILMAN ROYER. Councilman Royer reported on a meeting held on <br /> July 28th by the Committee, City Engineer and City Manager at which time the proposed as- <br /> sessments were atudied. It appears that soma of the assessinents are rather large, and it <br /> �"" was thought wise to confer arith the property owners so that they may know the approximate <br /> �r.r costs before proceeding with the improvem�ents. Couneilman Royer moved that a stud�r meet- <br /> ing be held INednesday, August 4th, in the Council Chambers at 8:00 P.M. to which property <br /> owners would be invited to attend. Motion was seconded by Councilman Spillers� and carried. <br /> �„�,,, REPORT ON SOUTHERId PACIFIC COAdPAATY PA,RKING LOTS BY COIINCILblAN GRANGER. Councilman Granger re- <br /> � ported that the Southern Pacific was still in the process of deaeloping plans and would be <br /> ready to discuss the matter further 3n about two weeks. Councilman Granger moved the matter <br /> be placed on the agenda far the August 23rd meeting, seconded by Councilman Ro�er and carried <br /> REPORT ON BUILDING CQDE COMMITZ�E BY COUNCILMAN GRANGER. Councilman Granger reported that this <br /> is not a local problem and that it is very likely th at it will develop into a county-�ride <br /> program. Councilman Royer moved the matter be placed on the agenda for August 30th, second- <br /> ed by Councilman Britschgi and carried. � <br /> REPORT OPi YOUTH CENTER BUILDING SITE BY COU1dCILMAN STOUT. Counc3lrnan Stout reported on the pre- <br /> sent status of. the program advising that he had received replies from three service clubs <br /> indicating their interest in securing a suitable building for youth activities. The Comrait- <br /> tee was now in the process of locating a suitable site after it was diseovered that the ori- <br /> ginal site selected was privately owned and not available for the purpose under discussion. <br /> � <br /> Councilman Stout noted that the War �emorial �ounmittee had mentioned in their report the <br /> """ use of their proposed building for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, etc. , and suggested holding <br /> up any further action until after the meeting with the War �emorial Gom�nittee which would <br /> be held on Auguet 5th. Co�ncilman Stout so moved, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and <br /> carried. <br /> REPORT ON RECOMA�NDATIONS OF THE CITY DUMP COMMITTF.�. Councilman Stout noted wrecked cars were <br /> still being dumped in the area, the burning of �rhich was adding to the air pollution. He <br /> has been working with the City Engineer who isrpreparing a ma.p indicating the present area <br /> and the additional area which is available to t�he 'City. Councilmar� Stout stated that the <br /> County had prohibited the dumping of old, wrecked auto in �he county dump and suggested <br /> the following. <br /> l. That the �ount� officially prohibit the dumping of wreeked autos in the <br /> city dump area. The City Attorney advised that the City Manager has the <br /> �""" authority to so direct. <br /> �,,,,,,, 2. That there be segregation of materisls between combustible an d noncombust- <br /> ible. It would be neeessary to request the cooperation of the public on <br /> brin�ing material to the dump to separate materials as suggested above. <br /> Couricilmari Royer stated thet he had met with the County Smo� Committee <br /> and that an over-all caunty-wide program is being studied. It appeared <br /> from Councilman;'Royer'� report tY�at there are so�e influential people <br /> � behind this movement, and it is apparent that a workable program will <br /> be forthcoming. Councilman Stout stated his opinion that while the pro- <br /> � gram will be taken over eventuallg on a county-veide basis, he was still <br /> of the opinion that the City could make a start along the lines suggested. <br /> Councilman Britschgi then moved that the matter be referred to the City <br /> D�anager, the City Engineer and the Fire Chief to consider the suggestion <br /> and bring back a recommendation along �he lines suggested by BRr. Stout <br /> at the meeting of August 16th. <br /> 3. Councilman Stout recominended the installation of a fence along Harbor <br /> Boulevard inasmuch as the present fence is in bad condition, and it was <br /> his thought that a sheet mstal Pence approximatel9 sia feet hi�.i would <br /> result in keeping the material, burned papers, etc. , from blowing across <br /> Harbor Boulevard.
