It appears that the Planning Commission
granted the application subject to the approval of the Beautificat3on Committee. Council-

man Granger then moved denial of permit in keeping with the City beautification plan, sec-
-
onded by Councilman Spillers. In the general discussion that followed the policy of the
Council which at one time controlled the number of sign boards within the City has apparent-
ly been lost sight of. City Attorney advised, however, that the Council still could control
this situatio under the existing ordinances. Motion carried.
COUNCILMAN GRANGER OFFERED A SUGGESTION RE: THE CONCRETE BENCHES TO THE EFFECT THAT LOCAL SER-
VICE CLUBS MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN DONATING THE BENCHES CONTAINING NO ADVERTISING other
than the poasible inacription indicating the name of the service club. Councilman Stout
stated that the Junior Chamber of Commerce had been considering the offering of benches
to the City. Councilman Stout is still o' th e opinion that benches should be installed in
various park areas. The Park Superintendent is to build one bench similar to benches bein
constructed b the County. This bench will be examined and cost figures made available
before the Council reaches a decision.

COUNCILMAN GRANGER MOVED THAT THE CITY CLERK WRITE THE SERVICE CLIIBS and ask them whether or '"'"
not they would be interested in such a program as mentioned above. Mrs. Ella Coyle in-
quired as to the probable cost, it being her contention that Service Clubs would possiblg
be interested in this information. The cost of the proposed bench will be from 16.00 to
18.00 each.
