one of the conditions recommended by the Flanning Corrimission was minimum street im-
rovements to be insta.11ed . City Engineer Jain stated that he could not recommend
acceptance of any street less than that required of any subdivider. He called attention
to the Murphy Construction Company who had been required to build to standard require-
ments and in his opinion to reduce the standards as requested by Mr. Peters would not
appear feasible. Councilman Herkner stated that he woula go along with the City Engin-
eer in his recommendation for proper streets . Mr . Simon Peters stated that it would
be impossible for him to install the standard streets as the cost would be too great
and he did not believe that he should be required to stand the entire expense. Mr.
Peters then offered to pay half of the cost of the street but called attention to the
fact that property owners above him did not desire to come in which would result in his ""
having to pay for the entire project. After further discussion, Councilman Herkner w
moved that City Engineer' s recommendation regarding streets be approved seconded by
Councilwoman Tinney and carried.
STATUc OF PROFCSED EXTETcION WATER LINE ON STEINBERGER STREET NORTH OF BAYSHORE HIGHWAY.
Mayor G_.anger stated that installation of this water line had been agreed upon and that
the Council should take necessary action to request Water Superintendent to proceed.
In his opinion the S . H. Frank Tanning Company is the one industry which should get
special consideration fcr the many years they have operated in the City. Mr. Winter
stated that two plans on construction had been considered by his office. The first
is to extend a new main along Walnut Street from Broadway to Steinberger Street and
under the Bayshore Highway to connect with existing lines on the north side of the
Bayshore. The other plan is to extend the existing main recently installed in the
Marshall Street Improvement Project across the Bayshore to Maple Street and then west- '

erly to Steinberger Street to connect with the existing system.
Mr. Winter has written the State Highway Engineering Department relative to the require-
ments for crossing Bayshore Highway. Mr. Rolison stated that this project was not
recommended by the Fire Underwriters and did not create any deficiency points . The
recent expenditure of ;300000 of Bond monies covers work recommended by the Fire
Underwriters . Councilman Royer moved that the matter be held up until the meeting of
March 15th to await the information by the State Deartment, seconded by Councilman
Herkner and carried. City Manager Rolison reported that the Highway Division is still
uncertain as to the final route of the Bayshore until they hear from the Army Engineers
concerning the bridge across the Redwood Creek.
RESOLUTION Nc. 1641 OF PRELIMINAFtY DETERMINATIGN TO MAKE CERTAIN IMPROVEMENTS IN THE EAGLE
HILL ADDITION was offered by Councilman Royer who moved adoption seconded by Council-
man Spillers and carried on roll call. These people desire to cooperate in the matter of in-
stalling sidewalks but there is a matter of trees which they desire to save if possible. *"

Councilman Royer then moved that the matter be held up for two weeks , City Engineer
Jain to contact the owners and work out a satisfactory solution seconded by Council-
man Spillers and carried.
RESQLUTION OF INTENTION CALLING N ANNEXATION ELECTION FOR HIGHLANDS TERRITORY.
