The communication requests the cooperation <br /> of the City to the end that burning at the City Dumps be held down as much as possible as <br /> � <br /> a step toward releaving air polution problem. Councilman Royer stated that the City had <br /> �"' cooperated and would so continue. He reported on the excellent work of the air polution <br /> committee which has been in existance for approximately two years , calling attention to <br /> the fact that considerable progress had been made� many of the local factories spending <br /> p� considerable money in controlling smoke nuisances . Councilman Spillers commented on the <br /> �, newspaper report quoting the Governor to the effect that he would take no action until he <br /> was given information as to possible ste�s to be taken to im�rove the situation. Council- <br /> man Royer then moved that the County Manager ' s letter be answered and that every assist- <br /> ance possible be offered� motion seconded by Councilman Jones . Councilman Royer stated <br /> he would be glad to contact Mr. Stallings to discuss this matter further, City Manager to <br /> accompany him at the appointed time. Motion carried. <br /> MARSHALL STREET BRIDGE. City Manager Rolison stated that both the Planning Commission and the <br /> Traffic Fact Finding Committee recommended the construction of a culvert under Redwood <br /> Creek on Marshall Street instead of on Bradford Street as a part of the proposed creek <br /> slignment improvement program. Gas Tax Project in the amount of �10�000 has been approved <br /> for the acquisition of property for the extension of Marsha.11 Street between Redwood Creek <br /> � <br /> and Main Street. Marshall �treet between Arguello and Walnut Streets has been recently <br /> approved as a Major City Street. Mr. Rolison requested a decision by the Council so that <br /> � <br /> �r. Adamson could prepare plans and specifications for the revised location and avoid <br /> duplication of work and additional expense. Councilman Britschgi moved approval of recom- <br /> mendation, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. <br /> City Engineer Jain brought up the matter of the width of the bridge and it was the con- <br /> sensus of o�inion that the bridge should be full width, four lane construction. Then <br /> followed a discussion of the possible covering of sections of the Broadwa,y bridge� recently <br /> uncovered it being the opinion of some that this could be used for a parking lot. City <br /> Engineer was advised that the plans and s�ecifications for the Jefferson Avenue bridge <br /> were being prepared at present� also the plans for improving the channel at the rear of <br /> the Frank property. <br /> ALVANCES ON BROADWAY No. 3 II��PROVEMEItiT7S . City Auditor Brophy requested authority to charge off <br /> � <br /> the amount listed as an asset account but which is uncollectable totaling �12�989.08. <br /> � City Attorney' s office advised that this amount could be cancelled on motion of the Council. <br /> City Manager Rolison advised that this action had been antici�ated in the xreparation of <br /> the 1953-5�+ Budget. Councilman Spillers moved that City Auditor Brophy be authorized to <br /> � cancel the sum mentioned above, seconded by Councilman Jones .
