THOMAS MARCH AUDRESSED THE COUNCIL regarding a permit he had secured to haul rubbish. In <br /> reply to an advertisement in the local press he had been hired to haul cartons from a <br /> local drugstore. Mr. March stated he had been stopped on the claim t hat he was hauling <br /> garbage and conflicting with the Scavenger Company franchise. Then followed a discussion <br /> as to what constitutes rubbish and garbage. City Attorney Currie called attention to <br /> the present ordinance whieh provides for removal of all refuse by the City Collector. <br /> In the case under consideration, the drug store does not subscribe to garbage collection, <br /> but claims garbage is run through a �arba�e disposal unit. Councilman Granger moved that <br /> the City Attorney bring in an amendment to the garbage ordinance definin� garbage ordi- <br /> nance defining garbage and rubbish, said amendment to allow pick-up of rubbish. Motion <br /> �µ. seconded by Councilman Britschgi. Under question, question of rates, health menaee, <br /> �w;�, <br /> garbage disposal, etc. , roll call vote resulted in affirmative vote, Councilman Roye� <br /> and Mayor Herkner voting No. Councilman Jones noted absent. <br /> CLIFTON HUDDLETON, 235 McEVOY STREET, REQUESTE� A PERMIT to open a barbecue pit and eatering <br /> service at �.6 �ifillow Street, the site of the former Colored Elks Club. Mr. Huddleton <br /> assured the Council that no liquor or alcholic beverages would be served. In answer to <br /> Councilman Granger� s query, it developed that the neighbors were offerin� no objections <br /> to this enterprise. In order to expedite issuance of business license, Councilman Royer <br /> moved same be granted subject to the usual inspection and further sub3ect to no liquor <br /> license. Motion seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br /> REPORT ON 1954-55 A�DiT. C . G. UHLENBERG PROPOSAL. Mayor Herkner turned the gavel over to <br /> Councilman Granger and reported on the meeting with Mr. Uhlenberg which was also attended <br /> by City Manager Rolison and City Attorney Currie. After this discussion, it appeared <br /> � <br /> that the City has been recaiving a very favorable deal, it being apparent that the <br /> � <br /> auditing firm has been writing off an average of �500 per year for the past several years. <br /> The committee feels that due to long experience that the audits have proven valuable to <br /> the City and considerable time of the department heads has been saved in the past. The <br /> !�"" present increase of �300 appears reasonable in view of t he growth of t he City and the <br /> � additional work involved. Col. Louis Weiss again addressed the Council statin� that he <br /> had no objections to the Uhlenberg firm but was still of the opinion that other auditing <br /> firms should be invited to submit offers. Councilman Granger stated that in his opinion <br /> the �ity cou].d do no better due to the long experience of the firm under consideration. <br /> Councilman Britschgi stated that the matter should be further considered by the Auditing <br /> Committee, it being his opinion that very few firms could qualify.
