. . ! . .

PUBLIC COMMENT
--- Mayor Hartnett asked if anyone would like to address the Council and the following
people came forward:
Pete Hughes asked that the Council add two projects to their list of goals for the next
two years: resolve the flooding problems at 5th Avenue, and upgrade the First Aid
capabilities of fire personnel, including equipment and training.
Jeanne Roehm asked that the Council find ways to promote the Police Athletic
League.
Redwood City Firefighter Adrian Andersen asked Council to consider adding
Paramedics to the Redwood City Fire Department, and to consider establishing a fire
station in Redwood Shores.
3) COUNCIL COMMUNICATIONS
A. Community Relations
Council Members discussed the perceptions of some Redwood Shores
neighborhood residents, some of whom feel disconnected ITom the rest of
Redwood City. The Council discussed the importance of integrating all
'- neighborhoods into one City, and expressed support for a connector road,
shopping center, fire station, school/community center, and more parks in the
Redwood Shores neighborhood.
Council Members discussed the impacts of holding Council meetings at various
venues in the City throughout the year, including the Redwood Shores
neighborhood. Council Members thoroughly discussed whether it would be
helpful to hold meetings with specific neighborhood issues only, study sessions,
or regular Council meetings; and, what criteria should be used to determine where
and when Council meetings should be moved.
Councilwoman Buchan advised that the Homeowners Associations were
excellent vehicles for neighbors to express their opinions and ask for Council
help. She suggested that Council Members attend Homeowners Association
meetings and report back to the Council as a whole. Councilwoman Buchan
announced that there would be a Homeowners Association meeting on January 30,
1996 and City staff would make presentations on City activities.
'---
MINUTE BOOK NO. 54 Redwood City Council Special Workshop Minutes
Page No. 013 January 13, 1996
Page 4
