<br /> . . , . . <br /> Mayor Hartnett and Councilman Ruskin asked their colleagues to report back <br /> to the full Council at regular Council meetings, and discuss the activities of each <br /> '--- of their assigned boards, committees and commissions. <br /> Councilwoman Buchan asked her colleagues to assist her and Assistant to the <br /> City Manager Centeno in revitalizing the Neighborhood Associations program <br /> through their attendance and any other action they can offer. <br /> Mayor Hartnett and City Manager Everett discussed budget constraints and the <br /> City's inability to hire any more staff without negatively impacting desired <br /> programs and projects. <br /> 4) Public Safety <br /> In response to Council questions, City Manager Everett advised that Police Chief <br /> Bolanos was finishing up an internal study on staffing, and the study would be ready <br /> for the Council prior to the upcoming budget sessions. <br /> MEMO 1/15/96 <br /> Councilman Ruskin described his discussions with Chief Bolanos regarding gangs <br /> and drugs in Redwood City, and told his colleagues those issues were his top priorities. <br /> Council Members discussed the old and new community policing programs and agreed <br /> -- that information regarding the newly structured community policing program had not <br /> been adequately disseminated to the people of Redwood City. They asked staff to <br /> publicize the program in water bills or other means to get the word out. <br /> MEMO 1/15/96 <br /> Council Members discussed the police officer assigned to the City's schools, the <br /> Citizens Police Academy, volunteers, new reserve classification, and ongoing training. <br /> Councilwoman Buchan and City Manager Everett described the progress of fire <br /> dispatch consolidation efforts, the specifics of a new agreement and need for <br /> notification to South County Fire. They added that all proposals were being evaluated <br /> and staff would have a full report by the end of February. <br /> C. Code Enforcement <br /> City Manager Everett described the stepped up code enforcement efforts that grew <br /> out of the Council workshop of January 1995. City Manager Everett advised that the <br /> City had only two full time Code Enforcement officers and that there was no money <br /> for more staff. In response to Council questions he described other department's <br /> assistance and the possible use of volunteers.
