ATTACHMENT 1 <br /> 7.1.A. - Page 17 <br /> TENTATIVE AGREEMENT BETWEEN <br /> REDWOOD CITY AND <br /> CHIEF OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION (COA) <br /> RE: SUCCESSOR MOU <br /> Article 16: Leave Provisions <br /> 16.1 Sick Leave <br /> 16.1.1 Sick leave with pay shall be granted to all regular full-time employees at the rate <br /> of one (1) working day for each full calendar month of service from the <br /> commencement of their employment with the City. Battalion Chiefs who work <br /> a fifty six (56) hour workweek shall accrue sick leave at the rate of eight (S) <br /> hours a month. At retirement, Battalion Chiefs assigned to a forty (40) hour <br /> based on the fifty six (56) hour rate and the retirement sick leave buyout will be <br /> paid using the fifty six (56) hour rate of pay. Battalion Chiefs assigned to a forty <br /> (40) hour schedule after working a fifty-six (56) hour schedule may retain the <br /> fifty-six (56) hour sick leave bank and accrual rate, provided that sick leave <br /> taken on the forty (40) hour work schedule will be charged to the employee's <br /> sick leave bank at a rate of one and four tenths (1.4) hours for every one hour of <br /> sick leave taken. Battalion Chiefs assigned to a fifty-six (56) hour schedule and <br /> promoted to Deputy Chief on a forty (40) hour schedule shall convert accrued <br /> sick leave to the forty (40) hour rate (i.e., divide the 56 hour accrued sick leave <br /> by a denominator of 1.4). <br /> Pursuant to Article 16.9, a qualifyingrr employee may also request family and <br /> medical leave if he/she is unable to perform his/her job because of a serious <br /> health condition, or needs to care for a child, following birth or placement, or <br /> needs to care for a spouse, domestic partner, child or parent who is seriously ill. <br /> Leave shall be in accordance with the City's Family Medical Leave Act Policy. <br /> 16.1.2 Sick leave shall be defined as the non-job related absence from work due to <br /> illness, bodily injury, exposure to contagious disease, and caring of family <br /> members whose illness required the employee's care. For the purpose of this <br /> article, immediate family means spouse, domestic partner (as defined and <br /> recognized under state law), child, stepchild or parent. <br /> 16.1.3 Unused sick leave may be accumulated to maximum sick leave credits of one-thousand <br /> two-hundred (1200) hours. For Battalion Chiefs who work a fifty-six (56) hour <br /> work week unused sick leave may be accumulated to a maximum sick leave <br /> credit of two-thousand four-hundred (2400) hours. If the Deputy Chiefs <br /> converted sick Ieave upon promotion from Battalion Chief assigned to a fifty-six <br /> (56) hour schedule exceeds 1200 hours, the City will cash out sick leave in <br /> excess of 1200 hours at a fifty percent (50%) rate. <br /> 16.1.4 In the event an employee has accumulated the maximum sick leave credits of <br /> one-thousand two-hundred (1200) hours (2400 hours for Battalion Chiefs-who <br /> Page 13 of 22 <br />
