President Scott said she felt there was no need to rush to a resolution and asked for further
comments ITom her fellow Board members. She stated that she and her fellow Trustees could
support the activities and guide the Board's participation in it without a formal resolution.
Trustee Gonzalez suggested that the proposed resolutions asked the Council and Boards to
support Redwood City 2000 Coordinating Committee's recommendations in concept (the
agencies' commitment to forming partnerships, Healthy Community strategic planning, and
stakeholder selection process) and to have the group move forward.
Sequoia High School District Superintendent Fruehling explained how the four agencies
needed to commit the $14,000 they had previously contributed to the South County Coalition
to Redwood City 2000 which would encompass the Coalition as well as other agencies. Mr.
Freuhling said there is no fiscal commitment in the resolution, but there is support for the
concept of Redwood City 2000 in the resolution.
President Scott said "we are pretending if we say we support this concept, but we don't really
need to talk about the money right now."
Board Trustees, Council Members and Redwood City 2000 staff continued to discuss the
report and funding issues, and Chairperson Devincenzi advised that the proposed resolutions
were in support of the concept and the process only, and would only continue the current
funding. Chairperson Devincenzi said Redwood City 2000 would come to them to discuss
funding at a later date, but needed to know if they were on the right track on concept and
process.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. ACTION BY THE COUNCIL AND BOARDS
A. Redwood City City Council
Councilman Claire said almost all of his concerns had been addressed and although he
agreed the process needed fine tuning he would support the plan as stated in the proposed
resolution.
MIS: CLAIREIBUCHAN. TITLE READ.
RESOLUTION OF COMMITMENT TO THE REDWOOD CITY 2000 PARTNERSHIP
AND APPROVAL OF THE COMMUNITY STRATEGIC PLANNING AND
STAKEHOLDER SELECTION PROCESS; (City Council).
Councilman Ruskin expressed concerns regarding the lack of sufficient time to study the
recommendations in depth.
MINUTE BOOK NO. 54
Page No. 134
Special Joint Council Meeting Minutes
March 18, 1996
Page 13
