. I I I I .

I
I
I
I
I

I Mayor Hartnett said the resolution does not include the strategic planning and
I participation process specifically as presented tonight. But would include a process that
I '-- would have to be reported back to the Council for final approval, and that new process
I would take into consideration all the comments that were made tonight.
I MEMO 3/20/96

I Councilman Claire agreed, adding that he would leave out the last sentence of the
I
I proposed resolution "the committee to begin the strategic planning and community
I stakeholder selection process" because the Committee needed to go back and consider the
I comments of the Sequoia High School District Board of Trustees and the Redwood City
I Elementary School District Board of Trustees, and at a later date present very specific plans
for further approval. His interpretation of the resolution was that the Council had reviewed
the report, listened to the comments and with some suggested changes hereby approved the
concept and the process in general.
MEMO 3/20/96

Councilman Ruskin asked for approval of the following friendly amendment: "This
Council hereby endorses the goal of working in partnership to focus attention on problems
identified as priorities by the community and embodied by the Redwood City 2000 concept
and authorizes the Redwood City 2000 Coordinating Committee to begin the strategic
planning and community stakeholder selection process which planning and process will
be offered at a later date for approval."

'--- The mover and seconder agreed to the amendment.

Councilman Leipzig said it was his understanding that the Council would not be asked to
vote on the resolution tonight. Mayor Hartnett said it was up to Council discretion
whether to consider a resolution or not.
MEMO 3/20/96

RESOLUTION NO. 12712 OF COMMITMENT TO THE REDWOOD CITY 2000
PARTNERSHIP AND APPROVAL OF THE COMMUNITY STRATEGIC PLANNING AND
STAKEHOLDER SELECTION PROCESS; (City Council).

ADOPTED BY THE FOLLOWING ROLL CALL VOTE.
AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS BUCHAN, CLAIRE, HOWARD, LA BERGE,
RUSKIN AND MAYOR HARTNETT
NOES: COUNCILMAN LEIPZIG

B.
